The Golf Cup concept is founded on bringing decision-makers from travel-selling companies around the world together with travel suppliers for extensive networking and relationship building while highlighting the host destination's tourism assets. Although the events revolve around a fun and friendly daily golf outing, playing golf is not required and non-golfers are fully engaged on and off the golf course. In total, the group will spend up to 15 hours a day together which enhances or establishes personal relationships that can propel significant business development.

Founder Terry Selk's father, a skilled golfer and one-time candidate for the senior PGA Tour, impressed upon his son that "golf will be one of the best business development skills you can ever have." Throughout college, Terry played casually but never took the game seriously. Then, the opportunity to entertain clients on the golf course arose, and the idea of building a program using golf as a tool to draw valuable international clients to a destination was born. The program has evolved to include travel suppliers who want an opportunity to connect with such partners to grow the business from those global markets.
Twenty years later, the CA Cup Golf Invitational continues to attract dozens of VIPs from over 10 countries and travel suppliers from throughout California. A sister event, the American Cup Golf Invitational, is in its 8th year of showcasing lesser-known US destinations and allowing suppliers from across the country to mix and mingle with key decision-makers. The success of these two platforms has now generated the opportunity to launch the event concept internationally, with the debut of the first Golf Cup International Invitational, in Los Cabos, Mexico, debuting fall of 2023.

Invited guests must hold a decision-making position within their company, typically that of CEO, managing director, president, owner, product development director, or similar. Each guest must pay their own travel expenses and a nominal fee to attend which makes them vested and represents their commitment to do REAL business, albeit in a fun atmosphere. Invited guests represent all sectors of the travel industry including wholesale leisure companies, receptive operators, MICE companies, luxury travel agencies, coach/group operators, golf specialists, media, airlines, etc. Many of the guests do not attend traditional trade shows or participate in familiarization tours because of their pressing responsibilities, so the Cups provide a rare opportunity to spend time with them.
"The Cup was a great experience. I felt like I was 15 years old again since I did what I love to do – play golf and share the experience with so many nice people. I brought many business opportunities back for my company."
Anibal Morlets – Ro and Co Tours, Mexico
"The CA Cup provides a unique opportunity to connect with suppliers and learn from buyers around the world. Participants will gain new perspectives on the industry, make excellent connections, and have a great time doing it."
Brad McDonnell – Entire Travel Group, Australia
"The CalCup is a great business opportunity to get to know a destination, and suppliers in a smaller but definitely more quality oriented way."
Elske Doets – Doets Reizen, The Netherlands
"Cal Cup is a great opportunity to strengthen bonds with current business partners as well as connect with new partners. The amount of face time really helps to set it apart from other conferences within the international marketing realm for bringing business to the USA."
Lena Ross – America4You, USA
"The Cup gives you the time to truly network and build meaningful relationships with existing as well as potential new partners. This is something that you rarely get from attending trade shows. This means there is a measurable benefit for our business by me attending."
Ruby Briggs – North America Travel Service, UK
"Attending the cup is important for our company to get first-hand information on the development of the travel market to California and the whole US market, as this is where international outbound tour operators meet incoming operators and the corresponding CVBs as well as new products such as hotels & sightseeing."
Kristian Lehmann – Fairflight Touristik, Germany
